I am so excited about this post. I haven’t been blogging for a while, because frankly, I haven’t been inspired enough to be able to put up some decent content. This time however the case is different.
I have always been fascinated by the concept of cosplay. After seeing different ComicCon conventions happening all around the world, on social media , not to forget the frequent references to it on the big bang theory has made me inquisitive enough to try my hand at it. So this time around when I knew Bangalore Comic Con was going to happen, I decided to give cosplay a shot.
I don’t watch anime, but other than that I had the option of going as a comic book character, or a tv series character or a more mainstream cartoon character.
I being the game of thrones fanatic that I am(who isn’t?), wanted to cosplay a game of thrones character.
I cannot think of anything more fascinating that being the Mother of Dragons, the khaleesi herself, and would’ve cosplayed her(again how unpredictable right?), if I had found a decent white blonde wig. Luckily, I’d say, I was not able to find a decent wig which truly captured the khaleesi vibe. I say luckily because there was another girl at the comicon who came as khaleesi, so yeah, I avoided an awkward confrontation that could’ve resulted in a bloody duel between our dragons, because there can only be one Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of Meereen, Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons.
I think I got a little carried away right there.
So while wonder woman, and other characters who prance around in spandex were out of option, given that I would probably resemble a potato more than any character in spandex, I ventured back to game of thrones and after much contemplation, settled on going as a white walker. A moments silence, please.
I have always been more fascinated with dark characters. I think we all have found ourselves more fascinated with joker than batman at times, and while all characters in GOT have grey shades, I decided that as long I had decided to go as the bad guy, why not be the ultimate villain.
On second thought I take that back, I think Geoffrey (rest.not.in.peace) and Cersei (When are you going to die bitch?!) are far more vile characters and they make white walkers seem like the saint in comparison.
So saint or villain, I was to be a white walker. My look was based on the main white walker shown in Season 2 Finale of Game of Thrones . This was my first attempt at face painting, and humbleness aside, I don’t think I did that bad a job at it.
For the outfit part, the white walker I was basing my look upon was bare-chested, so yeah, that wasn’t going to happen. I decided to wear a sleeveless leather jacket , with balloon pants, some hand and calf pads with boots, to make me look a little bad ass . I have deduced that the white walkers aren’t particularly fashion forward or care that much about their outfits, so this outfit went perfectly with the White walker avatar.
Alas, after all this effort, I was late to register for the cosplay competition. In my defence, it was really far and well, all that contouring took time! What a shame, but we learn from our mistakes(at some point).
On the whole, I enjoyed the whole convention anyway. It was so nice to see so many people who were extremely creative and had worked so hard on their costumes, come together at one place. I was awestruck by the amount of time and devotion some cosplayers displayed in their costumes.
Most importantly, It felt like I belonged there and I think it’s was makes us the happiest in life, the sense of feeling at home. So thank you ComicCon, for this experience.
Till next time, when I will register for cosplay on time and am able to actually compete!
I will leave you with some of the best quotes from Game of Thrones so far. Hope you enjoy!
